Barbera is widely underrated and overshadowed by its more prestigious Piedmont cousins Barolo and Barbaresco wines. This Barbera has a luminous ruby color, with a lively bouquet of red berry and hints of tobacco; the palate is a lovely combination of wild berry and unripe strawberry with a clean and tart finish. Since 1956 when Michele Chiarlo bought his first hillside vineyard in Piedmont, he has built a reputation as a top maker of high quality, all-natural wines that are nevertheless quite reasonably priced.
Decant for 10 - 15 minutes and serve at 15℃; the balance and acidity of this wine make it one of the most versatile partners for food pairing; it works comfortably with a wide range of dishes from fish to meat, and pairs especially well with Jiangxi style dry-fried Mandarin fish or with Taiwanese style deep-fried pig intestines.
