How can a $12,500 bottle of wine be a good value??? It can when its one of the most individualistic and unique wines ever made. Guigal's 1998 La Mouline represents the apex of wine making.
To quote someone who's already over quoted in Taiwan, Robert Parker, "If I get stranded in a dessert one day, the wine that I wish to drink before I die of thirst would be Guigal's Single Vineyard". The 1998 Cote Rotie La Mouline is unquestionably one of the world's great wines. The wine has a brooding ruby red color and intense bouquet replete with exotic fruits and floral aromas. This is a very concentrated wine with numerous dark, ripe fruit flavors and rich, soft tannins. The wine has been aged for an incredible 42 months in oak and has a very silky and harmonious finish. Serve this wine with Roasted Wild Duck with Black Current Sauce, Roasted Pheasant with Goose Liver and Truffle Potatoes and Grilled Quails Stuffed with Truffles and Morels. Serve this wine at 18 ℃.
Robert Parker calls Guigal "the world's greatest wine maker" and the three Guigal single vineyard Cote-Rotie wines (La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque) are certainly year-in-year-out as good as any wine in the world. However, a very overlooked fact is that the less expensive Guigal wines are also truly excellent values. If it carries the Guigal name, it's a good wine.
