Another elegant wine from Pio Cecare, the 1998 Barbaresco is a very stylish Piedmont wine available for about $ 2,000.
It is often said that in Piedmont, Borolo is the king of wines and Barbaresco is the queen. The two wines share many characteristics as they are from neighboring areas and made of the same Nebbiolo grape, but Borolo is generally a heavier more robust wine while Barbaresco often processes greater finesse. Pio Cesare's 1998 Barbaresco is a fine example of a very high-quality Babaresco wine with an abundant soft fruit bouquet and light ruby red color. The nicely balanced fruit and tannin flavors provide a very enjoyable drinking experience. Enjoy this wine with Italian style Veal Tongue or Duck Confit Risotto. This wine also matches nicely with Taiwanese meat dishes like Stewed Pork (Kou Rou) and Pig's Feet. Serve this wine below room temperature, about 18℃.
The Pio Cesare Winery has been in the same family has for more than 100 years or four generations. The tradition began in 1881, when Pio Cesare started gathering grapes in his vineyards located in the hills of the Barolo and Barbaresco districts of Piedmont. Today, this family owned winery produces some of the most admired wines from Piedmont. Pio Boffa, great-grandson of Pio Cesare, now manages the estate.
