This $580 wine is a good example of the inexpensive, exciting new wines coming from the South of France.
Blessed by the hot climate of Southern France, this wine is a robust Vins de Pays. This dark ruby-purple wine has a slightly spicy bouquet. The wine definitely has a Mediterranean character with flavors of pine, thyme and wild berries. This is a very concentrated, full-bodied wine. The blend of five different grape varieties helps give the wine an interesting and unusual character. Enjoy this big wine with hearty meat and cheese dishes including BBQ Beef Ribs, Veal Marengo and Cassoulet. This wine also pairs well with Japanese Style Meat Skewers. Serve this wine at 16℃.
In the boom years for Taiwan wine market growth (1995-1996), a large number of importers who lacked knowledge and expertise imported French Vins de Table (Table Wines) that were awful. Therefore, Vins de Pays(often confused with Vins de Table) have a bad reputation in Taiwan. Good quality Vins de Pays like the 1999 La Cuvee Mythique will hopefully change this injustice.
