Clos Canon is the second wine of Chateau Canon, one of St. Emilion's top wines. The excellent 1998 vintage (especially on Bordeaux's Right Bank), available in Taiwan for a little over $1,200, is a graceful and refined St. Emilion wine.
The 1998 second wine of Chateau Canon is a fine example of St. Emilion elegance and charm. This wine has lovely dark ruby red color. The bouquet is replete with refined fruit scents and a touch of spice. The fine St. Emilion petegry really shows itself in the elegant flavors of dark berries, chocolate and spicy tannins. Perhaps, most impressive is the wine's balance. The delicious fruit flavors are perfectly balanced by the well-structured tannins. Because this is still quite a young wines the tannins will get softer as they are shed, but are still quite smooth. Enjoy this wine with Roast Beef, Roast Veal Loin with Morel Cream Sauce and Roasted Duck. This wine is also lovely with Chinese style Roast Goose. Allow at least 30 minutes for the wine to breath and serve at 18 ℃.
Chateau Canon is one of St. Emilion's top red wines. In excellent vintages, the wine can rival the great Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau Ausone. The property is now owned by the Chanel Group, which has invested millions of dollars on to upgrade the wines. The chateau's second wine, Clos Canon, was always highly regarded and since 1989 has been getting progressively better.
