This is a very dry, crisp and refreshing $600 white wine suitable for more experienced wine drinkers.
The Aligote variety is the second white wine grape of Burgundy. Not as famous, rich or long-lived as the Chardonnay grape, the Aligote grape does made dry wines that can be invigorating and thirst quenching. Novice wine drinkers may find Aligote wines to dry and tart but experienced drinkers tend to appreciate these qualities. The 2000 Faiveley, Bourgogne Aligote Bouzeron is a delightful example of a good Aligote wine with pale yellow color and a light floral bouquet. The wine has an immediate citrus affect on the palate followed by a very crisp, tart finish. This is a fine wine to enjoy on hot summer days. Match this wine with Baked Clams Casino, Deep Fried Crab Cakes and Seafood Salads. This wine also pairs nicely with Cantonese Style Shrimp Ball Salad, Deep Fried Cuttle Fish and Sauteed Frog with Soy Sauce. Many European like to add a little Cassis to these wines (thus becoming a Kir) and enjoy as an aperitif. Serve this wine well chilled, about 8 C°.
Pierre Faiveley established Domaine Faiveley in 1825. Over the years, the family acquired bits and pieces and plots and parcels of vineyards. In 1934, along with another shipper, Georges Faiveley, Francois's grandfather, founded the Confrerie des Chevaliers du Tastevin, a society to promote burgundy wines all over the world. Today, under the direction of Francois Faiveley, a sixth-generation descendant, the firm owns 270 acres of vineyards making it one of the largest landowners in Burgundy.
