This chateau still doesn't get the credit it deserves for making classic smooth Saint Julien wines; the 2000 Branaire-Ducru is one of the best wines from this chateau in the past 20 years; the wine has a deep garnet-ruby red color, cassis and mineral nose and ripe black and red fruit with well-developed subtle tannins; match with grilled steaks, lamb chops as well as Northern Chinese roasted meat dishes; once known as Braneyre this ancient chateau has experienced periods of underperformance and therefore can be a good value in vintages when the wine does well; since the mid 1990s, this chateau has been making very good wines.
