One of the most interesting wines we tasted, this spicy and earthy Cabernet, Merlot and Pinotage blend has deep garnet red color, dark fruit, white pepper and tar nose and spicy flavors of preserved fruit, black pepper and coffee with herbal notes; a joint venture between the Rupert family of South Africa and Baron Benjamin de Rothschild; this Fredericksburg winery is located on a farm founded in 1690 and has built a reputation for premium South African wines.
Serve at 18℃; the 12 months in French oak has imparted a nice roundness and a pleasant toasty oak finish; matches well with BBQ and roasted meats.
