Less powerful than the Grey Label Shiraz, this wine is still quite concentrated with a brooding dark red color, plum and black pepper nose and pleasant flavors of spicy plums, mixed pepper corns and oak; the wine is soft and generous in the mouth with a respectably long finish; match with a wide variety of red meats including some spicy Szechuan and Hunan meat dishes; raised in Germany, Wolf Blass bought his first vineyard in Australia in 1996; the company is now one of the giants of Australian wine-making with a wide range of quality wines.
