At under $400, this is one of the best value red wines available in Taiwan. Served slightly chilled this wine matches well with a variety of Asian and Chinese dishes.
If you are looking for a very drinkable French red wine at a good price, the Southern Rhone is a good place to start. Guigal's Cotes du Rhone, 1999 is a "daily drinking wine" that offers crisp, slightly spicy fruit flavors with pleasant light oak overtones. The wine is matured in oak for a year. The typically Southern Rhone Valley mix of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre allows this wine to match well with challenging foods that would overwhelm Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Pinot Noir wines. Go ahead and try this wine with Chinese and Asian dishes, especially spicy dishes. Serve the wine chilled (about 16℃).
Robert Parker calls Guigal "the world's greatest wine maker" and the three Guigal single vineyard Cote-Rotie wines (La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque) are certainly year-in-year-out as good as any wine in the world. However, a very overlooked fact is that the less expensive Guigal wines are also truly excellent values.
