The wines from Thomas Forgarty have built an excellent reputation among connoisseurs in California and Europe. Perhaps his best variety is the noble German grape, Gewurztraminer. This wine has a pale yellow color and fruity-spicy bouquet. The wine offers abundant ripe fruit flavors, sweet spices and a very clean finish. This is a very rich and soft wine as good Gewurztraminers should be. Enjoy this wine with German Style Onion Pies and Grilled Kobassi Sausages. This wine also matches nicely with spicy Szechuan dishes including "Ma-Po" Spicy Bean Curd, "Wu Syang" Pig Intestines and Duck Blood and Steamed Cod with Minced Beancurd. Stanford University Cardiovascular Surgeon, Dr. Thomas Fogarty started making wines at his home from grapes sourced elsewhere in the early 1970s. In 1978 he planted his first grapes and in 1981 established a commercial winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Thomas Fogarty Winery now produces a range of award-winning wines including Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and of course the Gewurztraminer.
