The 1998 Lafite has typical grace and balance rather than power with a dark brick-red color, tantalizing nost of violets, cassis and cigar box and lots of dark berries and classic Lafite lead pencil flavor and a long complex finish; one of four First Growth wines in the 1855 list (now there are five with Mouton), this Pauillac is known for its balance and complexity and is now perhaps the most famous wine in China.
Allow at least 30~45 minutes for breathing and serve at 18℃; like other great Bordeaux red wines, this wine is a perfect match with roasted beef and lamb dishes as well as a Prime Steak with no sauce.
18 months in new French oak.
The 1998 is ready now but can be cellared for another 15+ years.
