First produced in 2003, this wine is made from 40+ year old Grenache vines. The wine presents a middle-deep ruby-red color, refreshing aromas of red berries and raspberry; concentrated flavors of red and black berries with spicy hints, and some pleasing notes of liquorice and dark chocolate. Winemaker and owner François Collard, formerly a winemaker at Château Lafite Rothschild, is one of the world's ten best winemakers according to Robert Parker and has made Château Mourgues du Gres a new star in the southern Rhône.
Allow 30+ minutes for breathing and serve at 14 - 16℃; good with luscious meat dishes with a hint of spiciness or sweetness, like Chinese style pig foot with chili pepper.
Aged 1 year in 4 - 6 year old large 500 liter oak casks followed by 3 months in epoxy-lined concrete tanks.
Drink now or within 3 - 4 years.
