Robert Parker calls Guigal "the world's greatest wine maker" and the three Guigal single vineyard Cote-Rotie (La Mouline, La Landonne and La Turque) are certainly year-in-year-out as good as any wine in the world. However, a very overlooked fact is that the lower-end, less expensive Guigal wines are truly excellent values. If you are looking for a very drinkable French red wine at a good price, the Southern Rhone is a good place to start. Guigal's Cotes du Rhone red wine is made of Grenache (50%), Syrah (25%) and Mourvedre (25%) and is aged one year in oak caskets. This is a crisp, slightly spicy red wine with pleasant light oak overtones. If you like to match red wines with challenging Chinese and Asian dishes, especially spicy dishes, this wine is a good choice. I often drink this wine at home chilled (about 15 - 16 degrees C).
