This family owned winery produces some of the most admired wines from Piedmont. One of their most individualistic and best value red wines is the Barbara d'Alba, 2000. Made from the Italian grape Barbera, a red wine variety with the acidity and freshness of a white wine, this is a stimulating wine. The wine's color is dark red. The bouquet offers abundant unripe fruit flavors with a touch of spice. The aftertaste is quite fresh with little hints of oak. To soften the natural aggressiveness of the Barbera grape this wine has been aged for two years in a combination of Yugoslavian oak casks and small French oak barrels. When the wine is poured, there's a little white fizzle on the surface of the wine that quickly dissipates. Normally a bad sign, in Barbara wines a little fizzle is quite normal. Serve this wine slightly chilled, about 16℃°.
