For $2,250 you can enjoy one of Burgundy's top white wines. The 1997 wine is very soft and ready to drink now.
In Southern Cote de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet is one of the five villages making up the prestigious Cote des Blancs (the slope of the whites). This delicious white wine comes from the estate of the Marquis de Laguiche, the largest owner of Le Montrachet. Since 1947, Joseph Drouhin has been in charge of the estate. This lovely golden-green colored wine has an elegant bouquet of pears and vanilla. The wine is well balanced and round with a nice fruity finish. The 1997 wine was aged 9 months in 40% new oak providing a gentle, but not overwhelming sense of oak. Very long and complex, this is a truly excellent white wine from Burgundy.
Joseph Drouhin is one of the most respected and important wine makers in Burgundy. Founded in 1756, the firm specializes in high-quality, prestigious Burgundy wines. Wines are aged and stored in wine cellars dating back to the 13th and 14th centuries. The winemaking philosophy of Joseph Drouhin is to make wines that reflect individual terrior and vintages. A Japanese corporation now owns the company.
