Acording to Burgundian legion, Puligny's origins start with the Roman General Puliniacus during the Gallo-Roman era 2000 years ago. Puligny's wines were highly regarded throughout the Middle Ages and became even more acclaimed in the 17th and 18th Centuries. In response to the phylloxera crisis, Joseph Leflaive, an engineer in the marine engineering corps, started replanting vines in 1920. The results of the Leflaive family's care and expertise have been impressive. Many consider their Puligny-Montrachet wines to be the best of their kind. The Leflaive, Puligny-Montrachet "Clavoillon", 1999 wine is an exquisitely intense and satisfying white Burgundy. The wine has brilliant pale golden color. The citrus and vanilla bouquet also offers hints of minerals. In the mouth the wine is very round with a silky texture and bountiful flavors of refined fruits and a light finish of oak. This is an excellent wine to be enjoyed now or in future years. Enjoy this wine with elegant yet expressive fish and white meat dishes like Rainbow Trout with White Burgundy Sauce and Slivers of Smoked Ham, Grilled Salmon with Beurre Blanc (Butter) Sauce and Roasted Veal Loin stuffed with Burgundian Wild Mushrooms and White Wine Cream Sauce. Serve this wine about 12C°.
