At just under $800 this is one of California's best Merlot wine bargains. This robust, yet smooth wine is one of the most popular Merlots in the U.S.
To make the 2000 vintage Merlot, Blackstone sourced grapes from 26 vineyards in six different counties (Napa Valley, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, Mendocino and Central Coast). The result is a deep garnet colored wine with a bouquet of ripe plums. On the palate the wine offers generous ripe fruit flavors with a creamy texture. The firm tannins need about 20 minutes or more of breathing to soften. Overall, this is a very impressive wine for the price and it's easy to understand why it was voted one of the three most popular Merlots in the U.S. by Wine & Spirits Magazine. Match this wine with grilled and BBQ meats including Grill Babyback Ribs, Free Range Chicken and T-Bone Steaks. This wine also pairs well with Northern Chinese Style Grilled Meats. Serve this wine at 18 ℃.
Blackstone is a very new winery, only 11 years old. However, in a very short time they have developed an excellent reputation for producing high-quality, affordable Merlot wines. Their wines have won numerous awards around the world. More recently they started to make Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines using the same multi-vineyard sourcing that has helped make their Merlot such a success.
