To make the 2000 vintage Merlot, Blackstone sourced grapes from 26 vineyards in six different counties (Napa Valley, Sonoma, Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley, Mendocino and Central Coast). The result is a deep garnet colored wine with a bouquet of ripe plums. On the palate the wine offers generous ripe fruit flavors with a creamy texture. The firm tannins need about 20 minutes or more of breathing to soften. Overall, this is a very impressive wine for the price and it's easy to understand why it was voted one of the three most popular Merlots in the U.S. by Wine & Spirits Magazine. Match this wine with grilled and BBQ meats including Grill Babyback Ribs, Free Range Chicken and T-Bone Steaks. This wine also pairs well with Northern Chinese Style Grilled Meats. Blackstone is a very new winery, only 11 years old. However, in a very short time they have developed an excellent reputation for producing high-quality, affordable Merlot wines. Their wines have won numerous awards around the world. More recently they started to make Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon wines using the same multi-vineyard sourcing that has helped make their Merlot such a success.
